We've made it to another Friday. Let's learn some things.
Item 1: a link
David Byrne is always onto the next adventure
In a culture driven by nostalgia, David Byrne seems allergic to the easy repeat. His latest “Theater of the Mind,” a sprawling project that’s part installation, part performance piece.
Item 2: a list
Lord of the Rings “races” (gross), ranked
- Dwarves
- Women (also Men)
- Ents
- Elves
- Trolls
- Orcs
- Hobbits
Item 3: a media recommendation
Invasion of the Vibe-Snatchers: Pop Music Is Regurgitating Itself Faster Than Ever
The ‘Switched on Pop’ podcast is hit or miss for me, but this week's episode about "interpolations" - i.e., songs that are crafted specifically to remind you of other songs, ideally without quite ripping them off completely - is pretty fascinating. Also, in some ways, depressing, but I for one prefer my depressing news to at least be interesting as well. As usual, it turns out the culprit is naked capitalism, with a side of copyright creep and a dollop of litigiousness. But, for what it's worth, shameless soundalikes are nothing new in this business.
Item 4: a photograph
See ya!
Thanks for reading! See you again next week, if all goes according to plan.
