Wolmania - Friday, August 19, 2022

Happy Friday. As summer winds down, and a boy's thoughts turn to new iPhones and She-Hulks (Shes-Hulk?), we take a moment to appreciate the little things that make life such a joy. Like baked goods that last for a decade, or dysfunctional rock bands, and of course the mighty grebe.

How a Centuries-Old Soldier Ration Found a Fanbase in Alaska

Fun story about "pilot bread", a modern form of hardtack that sounds basically like a very durable Ritz™ cracker. The people of Alaska, a strange group of iconoclasts, love it (at least according to Atlas Obscura and Eater).

Item 2: a list

Fleetwood Mac members people have heard of, ranked:

  1. Christine McVie
  2. Lindsey Buckingham
  3. Mick Fleetwood
  4. Stevie Nicks
  5. John McVie

Item 3: a media recommendation

There's a new Game of Thrones show starting this weekend (about which I'm cautiously optimistic), and the season (or maybe series) finale of The Rehearsal (which has lived up to my high hopes so far). But I haven't seen those so I'm not going to recommend them. Instead, I'm going to recommend this:

Santana - Soul Sacrifice 1969 (Woodstock)

Item 4: a photograph

Ignacio Medem - Great crested grebe among buttercups

See ya!

Thanks for reading. I hope you have a spectacular weekend. See you next week.
