Happy iPhone Preorder Day to those who celebrate. Pretty excited about how this year's models are rectangles with glass fronts. I was hoping for that.

The Enchanting, Elusive Pink Fairy Armadillo

There’s this cute little armadillo, the pink fairy armadillo.

The animal’s shell, paws, and tail are a vibrant bubblegum pink that contrasts with its silky, milk-white fur and black eyes. About the size of a hamster—a mere six inches from head to tail and weighing just a quarter of a pound—it’s the smallest of all armadillo species. It’s found only in Argentina, in a broad swathe of sunbaked scrubland that stretches from the foothills of the Andes to the coastal province of Buenos Aires. And that is about all we know of these wondrous animals.

That’s about all we know because they hide out underground, where the species retreated due to (pre-human) climate change that turned its native grasslands to desert. After many generations in the earth, the armadillo’s shell got soft and now it’s used to cool the creature and help it tunnel around looking for bugs to eat.

As a result of their dedication to the subterranean lifestyle, pink fairy armasdillo rarely pop up above ground – people who live near their habitat see them once or twice in a lifetime.

Anyway, I had to pad the item out with some information about this creature (and you can click through for more), but this was all just an excuse to post a photo of that cute little guy.
