The newsletter that is not afraid to say that some things are better than other things.

Good morning. Keeping it short and sweet this week, because I respect your time.

I appreciate a history of the camera that basically ends in 1884.

Item 2: a list

Muffaletta Components, Ranked:

  1. Olive Salad
  2. Swiss Cheese
  3. Cold Cuts*
  4. Sesame Bread
  5. Provolone

*Cold Cuts in a Muffaletta, Ranked:

  1. Genoa Salami
  2. Mortadella
  3. Ham

Item 3: a media recommendation

Big Bear Bald Eagle Live Nest Cam (I don’t recommend the comment stream)

Bonus recommendation: if you didn’t get a chance to see the Brian Eno documentary back when it was in theaters about six months ago (or if you didn’t even know there was a Brian Eno documentary until right now), you have another shot at it next weekend (March 27-30), when they’re livestreaming six unique versions. You can buy a la carte tickets for individual screenings or pay double and get access to all six. I saw it and found it a delightful meditation on creativity, and because it’s a weird art project that combines source material into a slightly different presentation with each screening, it might never be available in a normal on-demand streaming form. So find a time that works for you and enjoy it.

Item 4: word of the week

Regolith

Sometimes I look around at the mess we’ve made of the world and take comfort knowing that it’s all just regolith upon which will someday tread astronauts visiting from a functional civilization.

Item 5: a photograph

Purple flower among its less show-offy friends. Photo by me.

See ya!
