They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. But more importantly for our purposes, it comprises a whole bunch of single steps in the middle, too. In other words, this is not my most robust issue. But it still gets us a little closer to our goal (me giving up on the newsletter and doing something else).

I’ve had a lot of thoughts about the history of NASA, but until I read this article I never really contemplated whether they ever worried an astronaut in orbit might just… open the door. I guess it’s unlikely that I would bring the question up if the answer were “no” and, indeed, it’s not. It’s “yes”.

Chatelaine

As society has evolved we’ve really lost sight of the essential role of the chatelaine in a well-run household. By which I of course mean the decorative belt hook or clasp worn at the waist with a series of chains suspended from it, each chain mounted with useful household appendages such as scissors, thimbles, watches, keys, smelling salts, and household seals. Not a woman in charge of a large house.
